Finding Connection in Morocco

Some places you visit for the views. Others for the adventure. Morocco was both for me but more than that, it was about the way the culture wraps itself around connection, good food, and simple joy.

A Culture That Slows You Down

From the moment I arrived, I noticed how people here take their time with one another. Conversations weren’t rushed. Hospitality wasn’t something you did, it was a way of being. Every smile, every welcome, every interaction felt grounded in this deep desire to connect.

Meals That Feel Like Celebration

Food in Morocco is more than nourishment, it’s an invitation. A table layered with tagines, fresh bread, colorful spreads, and of course, mint tea poured high. Meals stretched into long, lingering evenings, where stories flowed as easily as the tea. It wasn’t just about eating, it was about gathering, being present, and truly sharing life.

Surfing the Coastline

And then there was the ocean. Morocco’s coastline is wild and alive, with waves that pull surfers from all over the world. Paddling out felt like entering another rhythm, one that mirrored the culture itself: grounded, steady, and full of energy. There’s something about being in the water that brings strangers together quickly, and that sense of community was everywhere.

What Stayed With Me

Driving along winding coastal roads, walking through markets, laughing with friends, sharing meals, and chasing waves, I kept coming back to the same thought: life is richer when it’s shared.

Morocco reminded me that beauty isn’t just in the scenery (though there was plenty of that). It’s in the people. In the food. In the laughter. In the way community shows up and invites you to slow down and belong, even for a little while.

More than anything, it reminded me that family is everywhere…the ones who welcome you in, share their table, and make you feel at home.

If surfing and meeting friends from around the world is ever on your heart, check out Girl on the Wave—and tell Margherita I say hi.
